ORIGINALLY POSTED 7-27-2008
Canada's bilingual don't cha know?
I am always amazed how foreign release posters are so distinctive from their domestic counterparts. Polish one sheets from the 60's and 70's are notoriously bizarre - do yourself a favour and peruse a site or two on the subject. Belgian and French versions always catch my eye; they are often colourful and have a striking graphic quality.
I have MARK OF THE GORILLA (1950) kicking around the Gorilla Men lair but have yet to watch all of it. I can't say I am too familiar with Weismeuller's films but I am a huge fan of his original TARZAN (1932) appearance. What I have seen so far of his role in MARK makes me think he was better off grunting 'Me Tarzan, you Jane', however it's possible it's not one of his better performances.
I love the simplicity of the French release one-sheet of this Jungle Jim film but I am uncertain if the sepia tones of the background were intentional or the result of paper tanning.
