NO KONGA FOR THE KING OF THE KONGO

ORIGINALLY POSTED 7-17-2008

Foreign film posters often take great liberties in how they reinterpret the movie they are trying to push, often throwing in elements that may be wholly absent from the actual story. Here's a fine example how the ad material can completely deviate from the plot and toss in some liberal image theft. This Pakistani poster for THE KING OF THE KONGO promises a good measure of giant gorilla action, actually, KONGA himself (and his original poster font as well!) but I am pretty certain no bigga monkey menaces our well developed hero. The poster is likely for an edited movie length version of the Columbia serial starring Buster Crabbe ( a veteran of many a gorilla suit film). Thun'da was a comic creation of Frank Frazetta, who drew the Tarzan like character for a short run of six issues.
